Feeling.

Instinct feels extremely intuitive, stable and confidence inspiring. Lift comes on smoothly, pitch remains predictable, and stall resistance is unbelievable. The foil stays flying even when tips breach the surface, helping riders recover instead of stalling or dropping suddenly.

Due to lower aspect design, the Instinct remains fun to turn. It rolls smoothly rail to rail and does not feel locked in, making it enjoyable for Foil Assist sessions, towing, and early carving practice. The balance between stability and playfulness helps riders progress faster while still having fun.

Description.

Beginner to Intermediate.

The Instinct series is designed for beginner to intermediate foilers and wingers looking for safe and easy progression. These foils have a solid, controlled feel underfoot and offer predictable pitch stability from longer chord lengths and larger tails. The refined, balanced airfoil delivers a smooth, positive feel for stable and effortless flight. Rounded wingtips make the Instinct safer than other models, ensuring user-friendly flight to quickly build confidence.

2200.

Its large surface area provides early lift and low speed flight, while the reflexed airfoil reduces pitch sensitivity and keeps the foil settled through weight shifts and learning mistakes. Soft, rounded tips and increased camber near the tips improve ventilation resistance, which is especially important for beginners riding short masts where the foil operates close to the surface. This helps prevent sudden drops when a tip catches the surface. The lower aspect outline keeps Instinct playful and easy to turn, making it fun for Foil Assist sessions, towing, and learning to paddle up on a SUP. As riders progress, the wing adapts well to different fuselage lengths and tail sizes, allowing the same front wing to remain useful and fun well beyond the beginner stage.

2200 cm².

The Instinct 2200 was designed to get people into foiling on a system they can grow with. Affectionately called the “Beluga”, the focus is on easy predictable takeoff, soft flight behavior, and exceptional pitch stability, allowing new riders to learn with confidence instead of fighting the foil.

Built around forgiveness. Large surface area, a reflexed airfoil, and soft tip geometry keep the foil calm when ridden at low speeds and close to the surface, which is common for beginners using shorter masts.

This makes Instinct 2200 especially effective for first wing sessions, beginner towing, Foil Assist, and eFoiling. Despite its size, Instinct is not just a straight line learning foil. Its lower aspect outline keeps it fun and turnable, helping riders learn carving, jibes, and control early in their progression.

Shape.

2200 Outline. Large, low aspect outline with soft, rounded tips. Prioritizing stability, gentle roll behavior, and predictable lift, while still allowing smooth carving and directional changes.

2200 Geometry. Reflexed airfoil with increased camber toward the tips. Geometry is optimized for pitch stability, low speed lift, and ventilation resistance near the surface.

2200 Performance. Instinct performs best at low to moderate speeds where stability and forgiveness matter most. It maintains a calm, predictable flight path and recovers cleanly from surface contact, weight shifts, and learning errors.

Speed.

Speed is intentionally secondary to control on Instinct. Acceleration is smooth and manageable, with a comfortable cruising pace that allows riders to focus on balance, stance, and wing handling rather than managing everything else.

Efficiency is tuned for early lift and low speed flight rather than purely glide. The large area and section design reduce the effort required to get on foil and stay flying while learning.

Speed Ranges:

720 cm²: 9 – 31 mph
920 cm²: 8 – 28.5 mph
1120 cm²: 7.5 – 27 mph
1300 cm²: 7 – 25.5 mph
1450 cm²: 6.5 – 25 mph

Hello,

First of all, thank you for your foils and for offering options that are great for beginners with the Instinct range and the aluminum masts.

I’m contacting you regarding the INSTINCT 2200 front wing and the INSTINCT 300 rear wing. I’m very interested, but I’m hesitating between the INSTINCT 1450 front wing and the new 2200 version for a complete beginner weighing 45 kg, starting this spring in France.

Could you please advise me on which model would be most suitable?
I expect to be in the First Flight / Beginner phase for a while in 2026.

Also, will there be new aluminum mast sizes under 65 cm available this spring 2026?
On your website https://ktfoiling.com/foils/wings/instinct-1
I see:
1st Flights: 50 Alu, 63 Fuselage, 300 Instinct
Beginner: 70 or 77 Alu, 63 Fuselage, 250 Nomad

Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Best regards.
Olivier

Response: Hi Olivier,

We are very excited about the launch of the Instinct 2200 + 300 + 63 fuselage for beginners and all around ease for even experienced riders. This bigger size will be available in Europe mid March 2026.

The 2200 is a completely different design than the other Instincts is our recommended go to for first flights.
Even for very light riders, this foil will work good and be very predictable for take offs and at low speeds.

I personally suggest a 65 or 70 mast for beginners, since they’ll have a little bit more clearance to prevent early breaching, I’ve personally done lots of coaching on those size masts and I think they work amazing.

For people that are intimidated by the height off the water, the 50 Alu will work but its better for beginners to get comfortable with something just a little longer that they will progress to.

Fortunately, the Alu masts are very affordable, so it would be easy to add a 50 Alu to your lineup once it becomes available in Europe this spring.

Best,
Ryan

Hi, I'm an older (68) former "goya" windsurfer who, due to age and distance from wind and waves, switched to wing foiling a few years ago. This year I bought the Drifter 4 (100) from Alberto (Detour). I immediately felt comfortable and appreciated the easier takeoff.

Despite this, I still couldn't complete a jibe. I've used various Sabfoil front foils (with carbon masts) that always felt too nervous and difficult to manage in the roll. So, Alberto (Detour) suggested changing the foil. I bought an Instinct (1300), but with an aluminum mast. The first day I immediately did 2-3 jibes, the next day 7-8, the day after 10, etc.

The aluminum mast is much less nervous than the carbon one; its softness makes the roll almost imperceptible, it feels like being on rails. Learning to jibe, if you have, like me, problems with the roll, is much easier. It certainly takes more wind to get it going than the carbon one, but the ease of learning makes up for it. The front/stabilizer combo is also extremely stable, easy, direct, precise, and allows for tight turns, despite its aspect ratio. I think the aluminum + carbon mast combo is useful for beginners like me. The carbon mast helps you get flying sooner, but the aluminum one speeds up the process of learning your first jibes. The Instinct is a fantastic foil for beginners/intermediates like me.

Response: Ciao Maurizio, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with our Drifter4 & Instinct. That was the whole idea and, therefore, the name. If you have any questions, don\'t hesitate to reach out. Wishing you a great riding weekend, KT Team
